At the end of April, our sensei Marián was once again invited to the Iaido Championships in Switzerland. This year, the event took place in the town of Volketswil, located near Zürich, offering a pleasant and peaceful environment ideal for such a gathering. For his journey, Marián once again used the regular Košice – Zürich flight connection, which allowed him to travel comfortably and without unnecessary worries directly to the venue. This convenience also helped him fully focus on the seminar programme and the championships themselves.
Saturday was dedicated to an intensive seminar led by Stefan Ferro sensei, with all 6th dan holders assisting him. The training was dynamic and focused mainly on practising the ZNKR kata. Each participant received valuable feedback, which greatly contributed to improving their technique and deepening their understanding of the details of each form. After a demanding day of training, a shared dinner in a nearby quiet village was a welcome part of the programme. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants had the opportunity to talk, exchange experiences and strengthen the friendships that are an inseparable part of the iaido community.
Sunday continued in a competitive spirit. Both individual and team competitions took place, with everyone giving their best performance. The competition day was concluded with an enbu performed by the 6th dan holders, which was a beautiful demonstration of mastery, elegance and precision.
During the event, Marián once again further developed his experience as a referee. Every competition brings new situations and perspectives, allowing one to continue learning and progressing. We are happy that our dojo could, through Marián’s participation, contribute in a small way to this international iaido event and be a part of it.
